Somalia’s new foreign minister, Mohamed Abdirizak, took over from his predecessor, Ahmed Isse Awad, in a well-organised handover ceremony at the Foreign Ministry in Mogadishu.
“I officially took over from Amb Ahmed Awad in a splendid handover ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This auspicious function was attended by former Foreign Ministers, MPs and Diplomats. I thanked Amb Awad for his service. I intend to serve to the best of my abilities,” Minister Abdirizak tweeted.
Awad was sacked over a week ago after the Foreign Ministry released conflicting statements on Somalia’s position on the ongoing conflict in Ethiopia’s Tigray region.
