Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi says the hyped Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) referendum will be floored by common citizens alias Wanjiku.
The Constitutional lawyer said the report’s No campaign does not need to be led by political bigwigs like Deputy President William Ruto.
Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, November 24, the High Court advocate nicknamed the Grand Mullah said lawyer Martha Karua and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana were enough to lead the anti-BBI team.
“I don’t think the “NO” to BBI needs a political heavyweight like DP Ruto, Hon Matha Karua or Prof Kibwana to lead it. BBI will be stranged and killed by the hands of Wanjiku,” said Ahmednasir
Ruto has presented himself as the face of the anti-BBI brigade even though he has lately been pushing for a consensus document.
Karua’s reservation on BBI
The former Gichugu Member of Parliament had vowed to reject the calls for Constitutional amendments through the BBI.
She argued the 2010 Constitution needs to be implemented fully before one can think of making changes to it.
The iron lady lashed out at the country’s top leaders for propagating what she termed as negative ethnicity claiming BBI was spearheaded by just two men, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila, alleging other Kenyans had been left out in the process.
“The inclusive prosperity of our country lies in fully implementing the Constitution not changing it. We are not a tribal society, it is the leadership that uses negative ethnicity as political tool. This is what we need to change by serving Kenyans equally,” she wrote on Facebook.
Kibwana’s stand on BBI
The Makueni boss has also lately been a strong critic of the constitutional amendment report.
In subsequent posts, the professor of law-trained his guns on proponents of the BBI report led by Raila who he accused of hijacking the process.
Kibwana who has announced his interest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022 vowed to join other Kenyans in opposing the amendments during the referendum.
“Jubilee-ODM government does not facilitate a genuine national conversation on the proposed BBI law changes, I will be one among millions of Kenyans who oppose Handshake Constitution. Constitution 2010 must be saved and implemented fully,” said Kibwana.
In a previous story by TUKO.co.ke, Abdullahi had likened the push for the BBI referendum to the 1982 coup.
The city lawyer said the BBI push and the 1982 attempted coup have similar characteristics and denominators.
On his Twitter page, Ahmednasir said both events were extra-constitutional in that they were not part of the provisions of the Kenyan law.
