Unfortunately the focus on the Gupta-brand of state capture leaves another, more insidious form of capture untouched, says Jabulani Sikhakhane.
has pre-occupied, and equally divided, South Africans in recent years more than
the allegations of the capture of the state, primarily by the Gupta family and
their political associates. This pre-occupation has given us the Commission of
Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture, Corruption and Fraud in the Public
Sector chaired by the second highest judge in the land, Deputy Chief Justice Raymond
proceeds of the commission have generated much heat regarding what transpired
during Jacob Zuma’s presidency of nine years. The commission’s outcome could
also have huge implications for the governing party, if not its current
president Cyril Ramaphosa.
