India’s Covid-19 tally on Monday went over 9.13 million after 44,059 cases and 511 deaths were registered in the last 24 hours, according to the Union health ministry’s dashboard. The total cases now include 443,486 active cases, over 8.56 million recoveries and 133,738 deaths.
The active cases continued to remain below 5 per cent of the total caseload. Delhi, Maharashtra and Kerala have been contributing the maximum towards the daily coronavirus tally.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to hold a meeting with chief ministers of all states to review the Covid-19 situation in the respective areas and the steps taken to curb the spread. The first few hours will be exclusively be spent with those states which are seeing a surge in their active cases and daily deaths due to the disease, people familiar with the developments said.
Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh are some of the states which will be a part of the initial interaction.
Meanwhile, the United States which continues to be worst affected from the pandemic hopes to commence vaccinations by early December, a top government health official said, according to news agency AFP. Vaccines by Pfizer and Moderna have been shown to be 95 per cent effective in trials, with Pfizer already applying for emergency use approval from the country’s health authorities.
