“After committing to spend well over $600 billion between 2020 and 2021, the Trudeau Liberals have been tanking since the WE scandal broke,” Kouvalis said.
The Trudeau Liberals lead in Ontario with 36% of the vote to 33% for the Conservatives, they are effectively tied with the Bloc in Quebec – 31% for the Liberals, 30% for the Bloc – and are in third place in Manitoba. The Liberals are second place in Atlantic Canada, Manitoba and British Columbia where the Conservatives lead.
Being chosen second behind a party that doesn’t have a leader and won’t pick one for another week has to sting for the Liberals and Trudeau in particular given that just a few months ago, the PM’s public approval rating was much higher.
In May Campaign Research found 65% of Canadians approved of the job Trudeau was doing in handling the COVID-19 pandemic for the government. Now that approval rating sits at 47%.
Just 10% of Canadians say they strongly approve of Trudeau’s handling of the pandemic while 37% somewhat approve.
The poll of 2,013 adult Canadians was conducted using the Maru/Blue online panel between Aug. 10 and 13, 2020. A poll of a similar size using probabilistic sample would be considered accurate to withing +/- 2 percentage points 19 times out of 20.
