RIOTS flared in Paris as masked protesters hurled Molotov cocktails at police during a rally against a controversial draft security law.
Officers fired tear gas after protesters smashed shop windows and set fire to cars.
The demonstration against president Emmanuel Macron’s security plan, which opponents say will restrict civil liberties, began peacefully. But for the second weekend in a row, it turned violent — resulting in 30 arrests, said police.
Mr Macron’s bill plans to increase the state’s surveillance tools and restrict people’s rights to circulate images of police in the media and online.
But footage showing police beating a black man — music producer Michel Zecler — intensified public anger last month, and the government recently vowed to modify proposed laws on circulating pictures of officers. However, critics say the U-turn does not go far enough.
Rallies also took place in Marseille, Lyon, Lille and other French cities at the weekend.
