Nicola Sturgeon has been ranked as the fifth most eloquent world leader in a league table. The first minister was described as “clear, calm and compassionate” by the experts who created the rankings.
In first place was Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s prime minister, for her “empathetic leadership style”.
Three of the leaders named in the top five are women, with Germany’s Angela Merkel in second, ahead of Narendra Modi, of India, in third and Justin Trudeau, of Canada, in fourth. Only 19 countries have women leaders but they made up half of the top ten.
Professional development coaches from Acuity Training, a management training provider, compiled the list after reviewing footage from speeches, press conferences and other public addresses this year.
