Ethnic minorities more likely than Irish to get Covid-19

Ethic minorities are more likely to contract Covid-19 than white Irish people while Eastern Europeans are most likely to suffer job losses amid the pandemic, research has found.

The study found that those of black or black-Irish ethnicity, Asian ethnicity, and particularly Irish Travellers were over-represented in cases compared with their proportion in the total population. Those of Asian ethnicity were 2.3 times as likely to contract as white Irish people; black people were 1.9 times as likely; and Irish Travelers 2.6 times as likely.

The National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) announced yesterday that there had been a further two deaths and 264 cases of the virus in Ireland. There have now been 76,449 cases and 2,126 deaths.
