Brasilia, Dec. 12.- The president of the Brazilian Workers Party, Gleisi Hoffmann, today defended the dismissal of the far-right president Jair Bolsonaro for using a government body to protect one of his sons, accused of corruption.
On the social network Twitter, the deputy describes as compromised the use by the ruler of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (ABIN) to aid the defense of the accused Senator Flávio Bolsonaro.
“The complaint that ABIN submitted reports to Flávio Bolsonaro’s lawyers to request the annulment of the Queiroz case is very serious,” Hoffmann wrote on the microblogging server.
He stated that “the president is using the national intelligence agency to help his son under investigation. That is more than enough reason for impeachment (dismissal) ”, he remarked.
At least four opposition parties asked the Attorney General’s Office to investigate whether ABIN helped the descendant of the head of state in the defense.
The request was presented by the parties of the Workers, Brazilian Socialist, Socialismo y Libertad, and Novo.
This demand is based on a report in Época magazine, according to which ABIN assisted the assemblyman to prepare his defense in a case of diversion of public money that has been pursuing him since his time as a deputy in Rio de Janeiro.
Flávio Bolsonaro is suspected of running a corruption scheme and benefiting from the return of part of his office’s salaries while he was still a state representative from 2003 to 2019.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, former police officer Fabrício Queiroz, arrested in June, would be the operator of the plan.
The case came to light at the end of 2018, after the financial movement control body (COAF) discovered atypical millionaire money transfers in 2016 and 2017 in a bank account of Queiroz, a former adviser to Flávio Bolsonaro. (Text and photo: PL)
