AMLO says they have been responsible for the pandemic

MEXICO CITY (AP) – President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said Sunday that his government has been responsible for handling the coronavirus pandemic in Mexico and lamented the more than 50,000 deaths that have been recorded so far.

The health authorities reported at night a confirmed total of 480,278 infections with 52,998 deaths in the country, which include those of the last 24 hours, in which 292 deaths and 4,376 infected people were registered.

“Everything that has happened is sad. More than 50 thousand people have lost their lives, it hurts us a lot and I mean it sincerely, but we have acted responsibly, professionally, « said the president in a video message.

In recent days, López Obrador has paid tribute to the doctors who care for the pandemic and remembered the victims of the disease with a minute of silence. On Sunday he did it only at the National Palace where he resides, but during the week he has done it accompanied by members of his cabinet, even when he is on tour.

« No one has been left without medical attention, hospital capacities have not been exceeded, because we have been working since the pandemic began, we have been working so that everyone is treated and we will continue to do so, » he added.

So far, the state with the highest occupation of general hospital beds is Nayarit, with 72%, followed by Nuevo León with 69%. Regarding beds with a fan, the highest occupancy is registered by Colima with 66%, followed also by Nuevo León with 65%.

Health authorities have said that if a state exceeds 80% it will be necessary to expand the capacity of beds and carry out a federal intervention.

The president said that his government has sufficient resources to face the remainder of the pandemic and celebrated that in these months some 50,000 health workers have been hired.
