Eleven members of the same family were killed during a flood in Panama on Sunday, according to the country’s civil protection authorities.
The Bejuco river flooded after heavy rain and swept away the family’s house in the coastal town of Calovebora, they said.
Nine minors were among the victims, who had been hit by the flood unexpectedly while sleeping. Authorities continued to search for more people, as there had initially been reports of 13 missing.
The Central American country’s President Laurentino Cortizo expressed his condolences on Twitter.
