Sisi instructs gov't to make best use of international funding opportunities

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi instructed the government on Monday to work on increasing cooperation with international bodies to make use of funding opportunities offered by international financiers.

El-Sisi made the comments during a meeting with Prime Minister and International Cooperation Minister Rania Al-Mashat.

Al-Mashat briefed the president on her ministry’s efforts to boost development cooperation with international partners, touching upon the development projects underway within various state sectors, presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said.

She also reviewed the results of her recent inspection tour of Upper Egypt to follow up on a range of agricultural projects in cooperation with the United Nations World Food Program, in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the UN.

Highlighting the importance of food security for achieving sustainable development, Al-Mashat said that by 2023, a total of 500 Upper Egyptian villages are expected to benefit from the agricultural projects that are underway, whether by using modern irrigation systems or increasing crop production.

In addition, the minister gave an overview of the latest developments with regards the ongoing negotiations on international loans and financing packages, whether at the bilateral or multilateral levels, the spokesman added.

Moreover, Al-Mashat shed light on the ministry’s endeavours to promote development cooperation with African countries and support development efforts in the Sinai Peninsula.
