RAMALLAH, Monday, December 14, 2020 (WAFA) – Today’s Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted the latest in the coronavirus pandemic at home, the region and the world, as well as President ’ visit to Qatar.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida dailies made the coronavirus figures at home their main front-page story and said that 17 people have died, 1639 new cases were recorded in 24 hours, and 93 patients are in intensive care.

Al-Quds daily made the visit of President Abbas to Qatar as its main front-page story and said he is going to meet the Emir of Qatar today.

Al-Quds also highlighted the arson of 400 olive trees in Masafer Yatta in the south of the West Bank at the hand of Israeli settlers as well as army attacks against protesters in the West Bank.

It also said that Israel is planning to legalize 70 settlements and outposts in the occupied territories.

It said in another story that Israeli occupation forces have prevented owners of land near the apartheid wall in the Jenin area in the north of the West Bank from reaching their lands or farming it and that every time anyone tries to reach them, the soldiers would threaten them of arrest.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli soldiers injured two Palestinians in Tulkarm in the north of the West Bank.

Back to the corona stories, al-Ayyam said four people died in East Jerusalem after contracting coronavirus, 30 people died in Jordan, and 27 in Israel.

Al-Quds said 1,617,223 people have died of corona worldwide and more than 72.5 million cases were recorded since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the United States starts corona vaccination today, as Germany imposes a partial lockdown in its effort to fight the coronavirus.

In other news, al-Ayyam quoted Israeli reports saying that contacts have escalated regarding the exchange of prisoners between Hamas and Israel.

It also said that five Palestinian political factions have called for holding a new meeting for the general secretaries of all the factions to continue the dialogue on reconciliation.

It quoted the Moroccan foreign minister saying that his country had always a special relationship with Israel, which never stopped.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the European conference in support of prisoners was launched.
