U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst ends a current ad with the announcement “Mother. Soldier. Leader.”

Strong words. But why would a mother, at least a loving mother, have mustered only a feeble response in the face of the administration’s family separation policy at the southern border, leaving children to be penned in cages?

Why would a soldier, at least an honorable soldier, have remained noncommittal in the face of reports that had offered bounties for killing U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan?

Whether the reason was lack of conviction, or timidity, have you ever associated any of these qualities with a leader?
