President won the presidency in 2016 largely because of voter dissatisfaction with a stagnant and feckless Congress and, of course, his compelling campaign “what have you got to lose” sales pitch.

Since then, Trump’s malfeasance and degradation of democratic norms and the rule of law are far too numerous to detail here, but among the worst were aligning himself with Russian President over our intelligence services, suggesting the consumption or injection of household chemicals as a coronavirus remedy, repeatedly encouraging violent white supremacists, separating immigrant babies from their parents and locking them in cages, denigrating military heroes,  publicly admitting to sexually assaulting women, continuing to profit financially in violation of the emoluments clause of the Constitution and, tragically, being criminally negligent  in the fight against a virus that’s killed more than 293,000 Americans.

Nevertheless, Trump received 74 million votes in 2020, each vote representing approval of that performance and an endorsement of its continuation.

To each of those voters I ask, what were you thinking?
