How/where are you celebrating your birthday and with whom? “At home with my family, eating a delicious dinner, a chocolatey dessert, and then watching a beloved classic film.”
How did you get your start in politics? “As a writer for the American Prospect, the Sub Pop Records of D.C. magazines. (The Prospect team is killing it lately, by the way.)”
What’s an interesting book/article you’re reading during coronavirus social distancing? And why? “‘M Train,’ Patti Smith’s second memoir. Beautifully rendered portraits of times, places and people. Reading and rereading it has been a good reminder that even in this deeply weird and often painful time of separation there are moments of transcendence that we must not miss. ‘Nothing can be truly replicated. Not a love, not a jewel, not a single line.’”
