Can Biden challenge Trump on info in security briefings?

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Because the transition of power is moving forward, President-elect is cleared for top-level security briefings– the same information provided to President Trump.

I wanted to know how challenging is it going to be over the next two months if Biden gets information he feels needs to be acted on now, whether it’s pandemic-related or a global security issue.

Here’s what our political analyst, Middlebury College Professor Matt Dickinson, had to say about it.

“Well, he’s not the president until January 20th, so no matter how frustrated he gets, ultimately he has to defer to . That doesn’t mean he can’t go public and prod , putting some pressure on him through public statements and pronouncements, but ultimately the power still rests with the sitting president… There are ways in which you can work back-channels to the White House when it’s issues you can’t publicize to try and communicate your preferences. Remember, there’s a lot of dialogue below the presidential level here, and this is why the transition money is so important. It allows the incoming administration to set up offices, staff and act as a shadow government interacting with the current government,” Dickinson said.

Matt and I discuss the big political headlines, including what impact Sen. Bernie Sanders has or doesn’t have on the Progressive moment on the national level and here in Vermont. You can see that Thursday night on the Channel 3 News at 11 p.m.
